The University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) is a highly recognised institute offering higher education and located in Las-Pinas city, Metro Manila. It is a co-educational institution and was founded in 1975. The University of Perpetual Help has 3 major campuses in Las Pinas, Molino and Calamba. Over 20,000 students study in these campuses, complemented by over 1000 faculty and support staff. The university has an excellent alumni network in both Philippines and the United States.
Chairman of the Board is Dr. Antonio L. Tamayo: Masters Hospital Administration from George Washington University and a Ph. D in Organizational Development. Vice Chairman is Dr. Daisy Moran Tamayo: Master's in Nursing from New York University, USA & Ph. D in Organization Development.

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

The Jonelta Foundation School of Medicine functions under UoPH and offers the Doctor of Medicine or MD degree which is equivalent to MBBS in India.
The degree is recognised by the Medical Council of India and the degree and the institution are listed in WHO, IMED, FAIMER and ECFMG directories.

LAS PINAS CAMPUS

The Las Pinas campus is spread over four hectares and houses all the offices, lecture halls, anatomy dissection laboratories, animal research laboratories, library, hostel, canteens, play grounds and hospital. Lecture halls are equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities and are fully air-conditioned. Wi-fi and internet facilities are available on campus and the University has affiliations with leading hospitals. Accommodations are available on campus & outside campus with North & South Indian foods.
The university has its own high-tech and well-equipped hospital named the UNIVERSITY OF PERPETUAL HELP DALTA MEDICAL CENTER, which is over 300 bedded hospital & also affiliated with leading hospitals in Manila. Super specialization in specialties such as Nephrology is available in the Las Pinas Campus. A large number of patients come to the hospital, thereby offering good exposure and interaction for students.

UNIVERSITY OF PERPETUAL HELP INFRASTRUCTURE

UPHSD is equipped with modernized classrooms to groom our students in their theoretical and practical sessions, throughout the course. It has well organized library and media centre providing equable opportunity to students to access the journals/books.
The University has its own guidance centre to guide and counsel students so that they would attain success in their life. It helps the new joiners to gain friends, help them to get clarity during their initial days and in particular makes the students to realize their unique strength. The Guidance team facilitates the students to get a job in the job fair conducted annually.
The four-year medical course generally progresses from the study of the normal to the abnormal human being. Most of the subjects are yearly courses which are taken up for two semesters.
The first year covers the normal Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Preventive Medicine & Community health, Psychiatry and Medical Practice I. Class lectures are delivered mostly through computers using LCD projectors complemented by slide/ film showing, laboratory work and group discussions. Pedagogy and Bioethics are incorporated in Principles of Medical Practice I. An introduction to medical Informatics is incorporated in Preventive Medicine and Community Health before the biostatistics session. Problem-based learning is gradually introduces in certain topics in Biochemistry and Physiology.
The second year deals with Pathology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pharmacology, Preventive Medicine and Community Health, Psychiatry II and Medical Economics plus introductory courses in clinical subjects. In small groups, students begin to meet patients in actual hospital setting where they are introduced to history taking and physical examination.
The third year involves didactic lectures on common diseases encountered in clinical practice as well as interesting or rare conditions. Pathophysiology is reviewed while clinical features, diagnostic approaches and principles of management are emphasized.
The fourth year or clinical clerkship is mainly spent in actual patient care with the University Medical Center serving as the clinical laboratory. Hospital rounds and group discussions give the student a good perspective on bedside manners, diagnosis and management. The clerks rotate through the different clinical departments for 48 weeks with periodic evaluation.

ADMISSIONS GUIDELINES

For New International Student Applicants
Foreign students seeking admission to the colleges of Medicine should submit the following documents in the order outlined below:
A. Documents needed for the initial evaluation:
  • Completed Application Form and Personal History Statement
  • Photocopy of Transcript of Records
  • Photocopy of National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) result
  • Letter of Reference from two (2) former Professors
  • Application Fee (non-refundable)
B. Submitted documents in Section A will be evaluated by the Office of the Dean, after which, the applicant is informed as to the status of his/her application. If applicant is qualified, the applicant will receive the following:
  • Notice of Acceptance (NOA)*
  • Personal History Statement forms for the applicant to fill-up (6 copies)
  • Certificate of Eligibility for Admission (CEA) form for the applicant to fill-up (not required for lateral entrants)
*The Notice of Acceptance should not be construed as the actual enrollment.
The original documents listed in items A and B should be completed and mailed back to the Office of the Dean including the following documents duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post (PFSP) in the country of origin:
  • Official transcript of records and diploma;
  • Notarized Affidavit of Support, including bank statements or notarized notice of grant for institutional scholars to cover applicant’s expenses for school dues, accommodation, subsistence and other incidental expenses;
  • Photocopy of passport pages where name, photo, birthday, birthplace appear;
  • Student’s Personal History Statement (6 copies) with 2 x 2 recently taken photograph;
  • Police Clearance issued by the National Police Authorities in the student’s country of origin or residence;
  • Birth certificate;
  • Letter of Recommendation from two former colleges professors;
The above-mentioned documents should be completed and mailed back to the Office of the Dean at least 30 days prior to the start of the incoming academic year.
Colleges/ Universities endorse the above documents to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Manila, together with the NOA and CHED-approved CEA for processing. Once approved, the DFA notifies the Foreign Service Post concerned on the issuance of a student visa. The applicants will now be required to appear in person before the Philippine Foreign Service Post with consular jurisdiction over the place for interview.
The following documents are required for the issuance of a Student Visa:
  • Original copy of the school’s Notice of Acceptance issued by the Office of the Dean containing a clear impression of the school’s official dry seal and addressed to the student;
  • Letter from the School Registrar requesting the issuance of a Student Visa 9(f) to the applicant addressed to:
    • The Director
    • Visa Division - Office of Consular Affairs
    • Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Six copies of the original Personal History Statement duly accomplished and signed by the applicant, both in English and his national alphabet, accompanied by personal seal, if any, and containing among others, his/her original left and right thumb prints and a photograph on plain white background taken not more than six months prior to submission;
  • Transcript of Records/Scholastic Records, duly authenticated by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s country of origin or legal residence;
  • Notarized Affidavit of Support, including bank statements or notarized notice of grant for institutional scholars to cover applicant’s expenses for school dues, accommodation, subsistence and other incidental expenses;
  • Original copy of the CEA approved by the CHED;
  • Visa Application form (FA form no. 2);
  • Medical Certificate (FA form no. 11);
  • Chest x-ray, laboratory report and clearance certificate for the AIDS antibody (HIV test);
  • Police Clearance from the local police authorities where applicant has been permanently residing for the last five years;
  • Guarantee coverage of return fare and other incidental expenses;
  • Life-size chest x-ray film;
  • Eight copies of 2 x 2 colored photos;
  • Unexpired passport
The following documents will also be submitted to the Registrar’s Office:
  • Student Visa
  • Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) from the Bureau of Immigration issued in colleges / University (issued upon presentation of the student visa);
  • Photocopy of the passport
